What’s New

The Final Proposed Master Plan includes improvements to the site design in response to comments and concerns raised at the City Council March 2011 hearing regarding traffic calming measures on Moraga Avenue and pedestrian access.   Incorporating these improvements into the Final Proposed Master Plan reduces the environmental impacts associated with the project and creates a better project that listens to the community and City Council’s concerns.  The improvements include:

Improved visibility (“sight lines”) for cars exiting the main driveway
Shifting the main field and driveway from the west parking lot 30 feet to the east, which improves visbility (“sight lines”) for cars exiting the main driveway.   It also eliminates a significant impact identified in the EIR as well as allowing for even safer pedestrian crossing plan. Adding a roundabout and pedestrian crossing to link Maxwelton and the east parking lot slows the overall pace of traffic along Moraga and facilitates pedestrian crossing from the east end of the park. Click here to view a drawing of the Maxwelton intersection.

Reducing the overall site grading (“cut and fill”) thereby lessening the ground disturbance necessary to build the project.

Less retaining wall construction
Reducing the size of the retaining wall by approximately 1,000 square feet and lowering the height of the wall, both of which lessen the visual impact of the retaining wall. Click here to see the original and new wall heights.

Less intensive berm construction
Reducing the intensity of berm construction by relocating the baseball/softball infield and dugout to the northeast corner of the field where a relatively flat area exists.  Not only is this the more logical location for the dugout given the topography, but it also eliminates the need for a concrete retaining wall for the berm at the northwest corner of the field (adjacent to the main parking lot at Red Rock) to support the dugouts as was originally proposed.  Instead, a  terraced, vegetated mechanically strengthened earth system can be used at this location thereby lessening the visual impact of the project. New Street-Level Sidewalk along Blair Park.
Adding a new sidewalk along Moraga the entire length of Blair Park, which provides a nice delineation from the roadway to the fields further improving the aesthetic look of the project and providing a tiered visual of the site.
